Recently, the large-scale solar photovoltaic power base project in northwest China has achieved full-capacity grid connection, marking another major breakthrough in China’s large-scale utilization of solar resources and advancement of energy structure transformation. With a total installed capacity of 2 million kilowatts, the project adopts the latest generation of high-efficiency photovoltaic modules and intelligent operation and maintenance systems, and its annual power generation capacity can reach 3 billion kilowatt-hours.
According to the person in charge of the project, this photovoltaic power base takes full advantage of the abundant local solar resources. By virtue of advanced solar photovoltaic power generation technologies, it converts clean energy into electricity and feeds it into the national grid, which can meet the annual electricity demand of approximately 2 million households. Compared with a coal-fired power plant of the same scale, the project can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 2.5 million tons and cut emissions of pollutants such as sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides by about 80,000 tons each year. It plays a vital role in improving the regional ecological environment and facilitating the achievement of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.
The grid-connected photovoltaic power generation system integrates a variety of advanced technologies including intelligent monitoring, energy storage supporting facilities and microgrid regulation. It can effectively improve power quality and supply stability, and cope with power generation fluctuations caused by changes in sunlight. The smooth commissioning of the project not only provides strong support for the upgrading of the energy industry in northwest China, but also offers a replicable "China Solution" for the construction and operation of large-scale solar photovoltaic projects worldwide.
Moving forward, the project operator will continue to optimize the operation and maintenance management of the photovoltaic system to improve power generation efficiency. Meanwhile, it will explore diversified application models such as "PV + Energy Storage" and "PV + Agriculture", further tap into the comprehensive utilization value of solar resources, and contribute more to promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of energy.
